socks for oma - who is now 90 years old!!

** my Oma (dutch for grandmother) was about to turn 90 years old, i wanted to make her a pair of socks to match the cardigan i gave her for xmas... and i found the perfect color at my LYS (sure, i own a yarn store, but i still love to shop at other places!!)  it was a ball of, hmmm, i cant find the label!  crap... anyways, i set out and only finished 1 and a half socks by the birthday party...

** i used the book "Knitting Vintage Socks", i combined the "wide toe" with a "french heel"... thats what i love about that book, you can switch up the heel and toe techniques in almost any pattern...

** when i gave her the first one she squeeled in delight, put it on, it fit perfectly... near the end of the day she was inspecting the sock and mentioned how i had woven the ends in really nice... i didnt know what she meant and then i realized she thought i had done the sock in fairisle... eek!  so i had to tell her the yarn does the striping and the fairisle automatically, its all just dyed into the yarn.. we laughed for quite a while after that... i think she's still impressed that i took time out to knit her a pair of socks though, hehe

** here is the second sock that i mailed to her a week later... they match up really well, and when i went over there for my mom's birthday party she was wearing the socks.. so cute
